Catholic Outreach to Judaism

Moreover, Zenit reports that the Holy Father will visit Rome's primary synagogue:

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 13, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI will visit Rome's main synagogue this fall, confirms a Vatican spokesman.

Jesuit Father Jesuit Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, said Thursday that the visit is scheduled for the fall, but the exact date has yet to be determined.

Benedict XVI will be the second Pope to visit that temple in the history of Vatican-Jewish relations. Pope John Paul II visited Rome's synagogue in 1986.

The current Pope has visited two other synagogues as Pope. The first was during the 2005 World Youth Day in Cologne, German, and the second was the synagogue of New York in 2008.

Rome's chief rabbi, Riccardo Di Segni, told Vatican Radio that the planned visit is "an important gesture that confirms the will to continue an attitude of respect and friendship."

He said John Paul II's visit to the synagogue of Rome "opened a new era" of Vatican-Jewish relations.

The rabbi also spoke positively of Benedict XVI's scheduled trip to the Holy Land. He called it a gesture of "attention" and "respect."

Di Segni admitted there are "many problems" in relations between Jews and Christians -- "theological, historical, delicate problems that separate us."

While admitting some differences will never be resolved, he acknowledged that the two traditions share many common values: "If the conflictive elements are taken away, everything that follows can be a great fruit and a great good for all."

The rabbi added that relations between Jews and the Vatican have calmed down this week: "Many of the clouds that had gathered have disappeared. A climate of good will prevails, and that is very important."

This is definitely a positive step--although I wish the next step would be boycotting the "Durban II" hate-fest.

My only problem with the Vatican since the amazing John Paul II passed on, is the attempt to work too hard to find dialogue and acceptance with Islam.

Islamic and Judeo-Christian values are polar opposites. It's upon our shoulders to share the burden of this fight.

Really, the Leftist-Liberal/Islam alliance is something that all true Christians and Jews should work together to defeat.

Both doctrines are a danger to Israeli, European, and American doctrines of liberty and freedom.

As a Roman Catholic who has always maintained a special affinity for the great state of Israel, I concur with you about the incompatibilty between Islam and Judeo Christianity.

I grew up in Miami amongst Jews and most of my dad's friends and business partners were Jews.

Actually I am dying to travel to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

The history of the church during the Crusades, in Spain during the re-conquest, Vienna 1638, Regensburg, has been to engage the Muslims, many times by force.

Durban II is truly a disgusting "hate fest" of radical regimes....

There are forces, many internally within the Vatican, which struggle ceaselessly to impede the great work commenced by the late John Paul II.

As for Israel, the IDF, Sharon, girls of the IDF (LOL) i am a huge admirer...as evidenced by my badges on the side of my page.

Yes, I know you are a friend of Israel--hence, you shall always be a friend of mine.

Most importantly, G-d blesses those who bless the Jews, so for that reason, I know that G-d will always bless you.

I appreciate your undying support more than I could ever express, and I shall always keep your safety and well-being in my prayers.

It's a blessing to know that we have good Christian friends such as yourself.

Someday, at the time of redemption, you and I shall stand in Jerusalem as brothers.

Until then, keep telling it like it is! G-d bless you always.
