Pope Promotes Religious Freedom

UPDATE 1:

The lies & manipulations have begun and it didn't take long...

AMMAN (AFP) — Pope Benedict XVI stressed his deep respect for Islam on Friday in Jordan, on his first trip as pontiff to an Arab state, and also stressed that religious freedom is a fundamental human right.

What did His Holiness REALLY say:

"gives me a welcome opportunity to speak of my deep respect for the Muslim community, and to pay tribute to the leadership shown by His Majesty the King in promoting a better understanding of the virtues proclaimed by Islam."

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch picked this up and rightly corrected this misinterpreation here.
Text of Benedict XVI's remarks at the Regina Pacis Centre can be found here.

Weasel Zippers discusses the Pope's call for religious freedom in the Muslim world here.

Jihad Watch indicates that hypocritical Muslims & Islamo-Fascists are calling for an official apology over the '06 Regensburg speech.

I'm very wary of "inter-religious dialogue." So often, interfaithing turns out to be a display of dhimmitude.

That said, I hope that this Pope can stand strong for Christianity. So much of the Protestant Church has lost its moxie.

I agree with you regarding "dialogue".

They are misrepresenting what he said regarding Islam today, as typical.

In the grand scheme of things King Abdullah II and his Hashemite Kingdom are pro-Western and of course he doesn't want all those Palestinians in his country, because they are trouble makers...

His dad crushed them during Black September 1970.
