"The Quest for 28 Begins"-The Boss Speaketh
Yankees-MLB.com:"The Steinbrenner Family and the Yankees organization are extremely proud of the members of the 2009 New York Yankees for bringing a 27th World Championship to New York City and our fans, the greatest fans in the world," Steinbrenner said on Thursday in a statement. "Every World Series victory is special, but this one is especially sweet coming in the first year in our new home."
"The 2009 New York Yankees proved that we are the best in baseball," Steinbrenner said. "We beat truly worthy opponents in the American League Division Series, the American League Championship Series and the World Series.
"As we did all season long, we fought hard, never lost focus and gave a true team victory. Our players have a lot to be proud of. This group will become legendary -- similar to the 26 World Championship teams that preceded them."
"Joe Girardi and his team deserve great credit for racking up wins over a long, tough season," Steinbrenner said. "We are so grateful to our fans. They have never wavered in their faith or enthusiasm through the good and bad years. This World Series belongs to them and to all Yankees, past, present and future."
"We'll enjoy this win," Steinbrenner said. "And the quest for number 28 begins."

Repugnant Anti-Crucifix Dictate to be Appealed
"This Europe of the third millennium has left us only with the pumpkins of the recently celebrated feast and has eliminated the most beloved symbols..."
Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
Ludicrous and egregious ruling from an EU entity:
Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
Ludicrous and egregious ruling from an EU entity:Vatican City, (CNA) - Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said on Wednesday that the ruling by the European Human Rights Court in Strasburg, Germany ordering the removal of crucifixes from classrooms in Italy is “truly a loss” as it is necessary “to conserve the signs of our faith for those who believe as well as for those who do not.”
“This Europe of the third millennium has left us only with the pumpkins of the recently celebrated feast and has eliminated the most beloved symbols.”
After voicing his support for the Italian government’s decision to appeal the ruling, Cardinal Bertone stressed that the crucifix “is the symbol of universal love, a symbol of welcome and not exclusion.”
“I wonder if this ruling is a sign of rationality or not,” he questioned.
It its edition today, L’Osservatore Romano (LOR) recalled statements made on March 22, 1988, by Natalia Ginzbug, published in l’Unita, the newspaper founded by Communist party member Antonio Gramsci, who said, “The crucifix does not lead to any discrimination. It is the image of the Christian revolution which has spread the idea of equality between all men all over the world.”
“More than twenty years later,” LOR reported, “these words express a sentiment that is still widely shared in Italy.” “The political world has almost unanimously testified to the lack of common sense in this ruling, reiterating that the secularization of institutions is a value quite distinct from the denial of the role of Christianity,” the paper stated.
After emphasizing that in 2006 the Italian government ruled it was lawful to have crucifixes in the classroom, LOR said that the EU court’s ruling is part of a tendency towards a “not-too-distant future of public places without religious or cultural references out of fear of offending the sensibilities of others.”
The Vatican newspaper said the State should be accepting and respectful different identities rather than denying them.

Mr. Williams is Coming to Town
Ansa:Vatican City, October 30 - Pope Benedict XVI will receive the head of the Church of England, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, on November 21, the Vatican confirmed Friday.
William was already scheduled to visit for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Catholic ecumenical pioneer Johannes Willebrands but his trip has assumed greater significance since an October 20 announcement that the Vatican was setting up a new section to help Anglicans who want to convert to Catholicism.
The new Apostolic Constitution will lay out the path for unmarried bishops, married and unmarried priests and other members of the Anglican Church to join the Catholic Church.
Many conservative Anglicans are unhappy with increasingly progressive moves like the ordination of woman bishops.
The new section, which would allow Anglicans to keep many of their traditions and practices, was set up in response to pleas from Anglicans, whose conversions were previously assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Some leading Anglicans have criticised the Vatican's move.
Ex-archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey said the Anglican Church should not be treated as a ''junior partner'' and that the Vatican had only given Williams two weeks' notice of its plan.
A conservative Anglican group called Forward With Faith has said many of its members are eager to convert because the Church of England was becoming ''the church of political correctness''.
One of its leaders, Father Geoffrey Kirk, said they objected not only to the ordination of woman but also to ''many attitudes on human sexuality'' including divorce and homosexuality.
On the Vatican side of the question, meanwhile, some observers have speculated that the arrival of more married Anglicans might eventually open a chink in the Holy See's ironclad insistence on celibacy for its own clergy.
The Church of England is regarded as the 'mother' of all the other churches in the worldwide Anglican Communion, which considers itself to be both a product of the Reformation and also Catholic.
With some 77 million members, the Anglican Communion is the third largest Christian communion in the world after the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches.
The English church was under papal authority for nearly a thousand years before splitting from Rome in 1534 when King Henry VIII was refused an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so he could marry Anne Boleyn.
